Common Quandary Turns Ethical News Into Thoughtful Discussion

The new publication invites readers to examine complexity and competing values, while showing publishers how reporting can lead to comments, polls, and civil conversation in person.

Palo Alto, Calif. · September 1, 2026

Software995 Inc. introduced Common Quandary, an online publication built around current ethical questions that are interesting to think through and discuss.

Common Quandary begins from the belief that critical thinking is one of the best answers to today's polarized world. Arguments designed to provoke strong feelings can make even thoughtful people overlook the complexity of a problem. The publication invites readers to slow down, examine the values and tradeoffs on more than one side, and talk with people who may see the same question differently.

The site includes an Explore section of concise everyday dilemmas and a Today section featuring timely, discussion-worthy reporting. Common Quandary does not use artificial intelligence to generate news articles. Articles in Today are credited and linked to their original publications, with a clear process for rights holders to request corrections, attribution changes, image removal, or article removal.

Common Quandary also serves as a working example of ThinkMatch's publisher platform. A participating publication can connect an article to a persistent reader poll, a public message board for comments and replies, and a path to join or create a small nearby Roundtable about the same subject.

The features are designed to work together. A reader can first consider the questions raised by an article, compare poll responses, continue into a public discussion, and then choose to meet locally for a small conversation. The article and publication remain the center of the experience rather than becoming a detached link inside a separate social network.

ThinkMatch currently offers its article polls, public article discussions, and Article Roundtables free to participating publishers. Publications can use the features together or enable only the forms of participation that fit their community and editorial approach.

Common Quandary's news experience illustrates how the same tools can fit an independent publication, community newspaper, newsletter, nonprofit newsroom, university publication, or other online publisher. ThinkMatch also offers publication-branded community event pages, embeddable event listings, and moderated reader event submissions.

Readers can browse Common Quandary without creating an account and can answer an article poll without signing in. A ThinkMatch account is required when a reader chooses to post publicly or join or create a Roundtable, keeping participation and private event communication within the existing ThinkMatch platform.

"The point of Common Quandary is not to tell people the easy answer," said Scott Rothstein, Architect at Software995 Inc. "It is to make the complexity visible and give people a constructive way to think, respond, and talk with one another. It also shows publishers that comments, polls, and real local conversations can be part of one free article experience."

About Common Quandary

Common Quandary is a Software995 publication about everyday dilemmas and current ethical questions. It helps readers examine competing values, answer polls, participate in public discussion, and use ThinkMatch to join or create small local Roundtables around subjects worth talking through.

About ThinkMatch

ThinkMatch is a common-ground-first platform built to change how people meet in real life. People can begin with a topic, story, event, or other shared interest, then find or create a small local Roundtable around it. Guests can answer event-specific questions, and ThinkMatch uses their responses to support more thoughtful introductions, compatible groups, conversation starters, private chat, and optional video before people meet in person. Hosts can also create free public or private events for parties, meetings, campus activities, conventions, community gatherings, and other real-world occasions. ThinkMatch's goal is to make meeting new people feel easier, warmer, and more intentional by giving people a meaningful reason to talk before they walk into the room.
