A soulful R&B Restorative Yoga experience honoring independence and interdependence. Deep blue tones guide this slower-paced practice featuring classic and contemporary R&B. Includes guided meditation on 'What does freedom feel like in your body?' followed by an intimate sharing circle. Registration required, Spaces are limited so please arrive early to claim your space. Join DC-native artist Dwayne Lawson-Brown aka “Crochet Kingpin” as he leads us in a workshop on the art of crocheting wearable art. The workshop is suited for ages 8 and up. Participants will learn the basics of Crocheting and have an opportunity to practice chains, single crochet, and double crochet. Feel free to bring your crochet works in progress. Experienced crocheters will receive a pattern for lace blossoms to explore and work on.

We will explore how a passion for the garden can grow into a green industry position or business. When well planned, a green “job” can inspire and attract attention to the needs of a growing community. We will dive into the passion of gardening both for and not for profit. We will develop a month-by-month plan and journal for “the good home garden”. We will share and include ideas that have worked for us through the years.

Please join Artist and Doll-maker, Francine Haskins, for a doll-making workshop with hand-stitched soft sculpture, mixed-media fiber dolls. Participants will use fabric, yarn, and a mixture of adornments to create their dolls. Dolls are created to tell a triumphant story of their life or the life of someone they know. Basic sewing knowledge is helpful but not required. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Spaces are limited. Registration is required. Participants should bring the following: · *A basic sewing kit (scissors, needle, thread, straight pins, pin cushion, etc.) * Any fabric and adornments they would like to incorporate on the doll. Francine Haskins, a D.C. native, is an American multi-media fiber artist and book illustrator. She was one of the original founders of 1800 Belmont Arts, an African American black art collective in Washington, D.C.

The Five Elements of Flavor: A Hands-On Journey Through Taste and Wellness

Please join Dr. Madea Allen for an interactive, family-friendly workshop introducing participants to the Five Elements of flavor — sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty — and explore how taste influences digestion, energy, and emotional wellbeing. Participants will taste five representative flavors — date, Celtic Sea salt, cocoa nib, ginger slice, lemon wedge, and whole Schisandra berry (combines all 5 flavors) — and identify their energetic qualities. They will learn how flavor relates to organ systems, seasonal energy, and emotional patterns. This program is for ages 8 and up. Participants will then assemble their own traditional Five-Spice powder blend to take home. The workshop concludes with a live demonstration and sampling of Kale Marinated with Five-Spice Caramelized Onions, empowering participants to integrate the blend into everyday cooking. This experience blends food, culture, science, and sensory engagement in alignment with ACM’s commitment to accessible community wellness.

In recognition of National Wellness Month, join the Fresh Food Factory Market, under the leadership of Amanda Stephenson, for a community conversation on Fresh Food as Medicine, featuring a team of knowledgeable experts who will explore the powerful role of fresh food in supporting prevention, nutrition, and overall wellness. This engaging dialogue invites participants to think more deeply about the connection between what we eat and how we live, offering practical insights that can be applied in everyday life. Panel Members Include: *Lottena Wolters, LPC, is a mental health therapist with a group practice in Washington, DC. She is the Founder and CEO of The F.L. Wolters Group and creator of The FLWG Way (pronounced “Flag Way”) a whole-person wellness model grounded in eight dimensions of well-being. A longtime Ward 7 resident, Ms. Wolters has spent more than two decades supporting individuals, families, and communities in building healthier, more grounded lives. Ms. Wolters believes fresh food is medicine because what we eat impacts mood, energy, focus, and stress regulation. *Nancy Sonnah, MPH, Program Manager of Community Outreach & Engagement at Sibley Memorial Hospital. She focuses on cancer risk reduction, health education, patient navigation, and improving access to care. Through partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations, she works to connect residents with resources that support healthier lives and advance health equity. *Dr. Kerryann Gross, Dr. Gross is the Founder and Medical Director at Evexia bringing more than 20 years of clinical experience spanning trauma care, emergency medicine, and gastrointestinal health. Harvard University-trained in hormone optimization, she specializes in obesity management, longevity medicine, nutrition, and preventative care. Her patient-centered approach combines conventional and functional medicine to help individuals achieve lasting health and wellness through personalized treatment and sustainable lifestyle changes. *Chet C. Alan Bennétt (Chef Benné) is Founder & Executive Chef at Kidney Kafe. Chef Benné is a kidney transplant recipient, entrepreneur, and health advocate who founded Kidney Kafe to promote healthier living through food. Through kidney-conscious meals, cooking demonstrations, wellness education, and community outreach, he helps individuals and families make healthier choices without sacrificing flavor. His mission is simple: “Eat Well. Live Well. Give Life.” Together, these panelists bring a powerful, multidisciplinary perspective to the Fresh Food as Medicine conversation, bridging clinical expertise, community health engagement, and lived experiences. Their combined perspectives highlight how food can serve as both a preventative tool and a pathway to healing, making them uniquely positioned to explore how integrated approaches can improve health outcomes across diverse populations. Murals have long animated Washington, DC’s neighborhoods, serving not only as expressions of visual culture but also as enduring records of the city’s layered social and historical landscapes. Artist and curator Cory Lee Stowers—an award-winning subcultural anthropologist, muralist, and founder of ART B.L.O.C. DC, whose work bridges public art, archival practice, and community storytelling—will lead a conversation examining the role of murals and street art in shaping and reflecting the cultural fabric of Washington, DC. The conversation centers on the newly available digitized photographs from the museum’s past exhibition Whose Art Is It, Anyway? The Arts in Public Places (1990). Cory Lee Stowers is a Washington, DC–based curator, artist, author, and cultural worker whose practice operates at the intersection of subcultural anthropology, public art, and visual communication. With more than two decades of experience in graffiti culture, muralism, and urban creative systems, his work investigates questions of identity, authorship, and memory as they manifest within the built environment.
