This August, Battery Dance returns to the waterfront in spectacular fashion, transforming Wagner Park into a vibrant hub of movement, music, and cultural celebration in partnership with Battery Park City Authority. The Festival begins on August 10 with dynamic community workshops led by selected local dance groups, inviting New Yorkers of all ages to connect directly with artists through shared movement and cultural exchange. On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the performances officially begin as the Festival proudly celebrates its legacy as New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival—an unforgettable annual tradition that brings together extraordinary artists and audiences from around the world. The 45th Annual Battery Dance Festival marks a milestone moment, honoring 50 years of Battery Dance and the visionary leadership of founder and Artistic Director Jonathan Hollander. This landmark edition showcases a dazzling, multicultural lineup of artists, featuring bold voices and movement traditions from across the globe—uniting genres, cultures, and creative perspectives in a powerful celebration of artistic expression. Returning to the stunning waterfront at Wagner Park, the Festival unfolds over a full week of dynamic programming. Each evening offers two exhilarating hours of performances, including the beloved interactive segment Everybody Dance Now, where audiences are invited to move, connect, and celebrate together. Swim Across America - Long Island Sound in Westchester County, New York, will celebrate its 34th annual open water swim on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Larchmont, New York. The event brings together close to a thousand swimmers, volunteers, Olympians, spectators and supporters each year to raise funds for cancer research, care and patient support services in the New York City area. Since its first Westchester County swim in 1992, Swim Across America - Long Island Sound has raised more than $32 million for its local beneficiaries, which include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine and Cancer Support Team. Following a record-breaking fundraising year last year, the 2026 open water swim will be held on July 25, along with eight additional community pool swims, that run from June 26 through August 1. The PuppetMobile will present a fresh take on the classic fairytale Pinocchio written by Julia Darden and directed by Bruce Cannon, with set design by Zlata Godunova and costume design by Charlie DelRisco. In this new telling, Geppetto is a New York City kid with a talent for invention, going as far as creating a robot friend in the form of Pinocchio. The story follows the pair as they tour around classic locales, from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park to the Victorian Gardens Amusement Park, and the hijinks they get into along the way. The production features hand-made marionettes crafted by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre puppet builder Kevin White. In addition to the artistry of the production, viewers will be treated to original songs written and orchestrated by Daryl Kojak performed by the marionettes. Join an afternoon of music, storytelling, and hidden histories with the Ranzo Boys—New York City’s premier trans maritime trio. Through a dynamic blend of performance and historical context, this event brings to light stories long left out of traditional maritime history, offering both insight and entertainment. Blending folk music, sea chanteys, and engaging storytelling, the Ranzo Boys will explore queer narratives of the Golden Age of Sail—from Walt Whitman’s dockside trysts to sailors using sea voyages to transition to living as men—as well as the vibrant, queer community that continues to surround sea music today. Expect an afternoon that is as thought-provoking as it is joyful: part concert, part maritime history, and entirely one of a kind. The Ranzo Boys—Lafayette Matthews (he/him), Jules Peiperl (they/them), and Lindsey Smith (they/she)—are traditional folk singers putting the queerness back into maritime and folk music. Formed in New York City in 2020, they have performed at the Connecticut Sea Music Festival, the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival, New England Folk Festival Association, and the South Street Seaport Museum. They have also recorded eight songs for public radio that were later broadcast as a national NPR special. Their repertoire includes buzzy English harmonies, Appalachian ballads, sea chanteys, droney instrumental backing, and any song that can be remotely construed as queer. About the 1885 Tall Ship Wavertree Wavertree was built at Southampton, England, in 1885 and, after a 24-year sailing career and circumnavigating the globe at least three times, is now the last remaining iron-hulled three-masted full-rigged cargo ship. Today, Wavertree is visited by guests of all ages from around the globe and serves as the centerpiece of the “Street of Ships” at the Seaport Museum. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 13, 1978 and symbolizes the profound influence of sailing ships, their intrepid sailors, and the bustling waterfront in shaping New York City into a modern metropolis. Farm Camp is located at 108-110 Orange Road in Montclair, New Jersey. Farm Camp supports youth development by promoting a positive interest in nature, historical living, and agriculture. Our mission is to provide the best camp experience for youth while also providing a beneficial learning experience about food, animals, our earth, and its agricultural past. Our campers will be in the garden each day and participate in age related activities. For families in need of financial assistance, scholarships are available. Scholarships are limited and only one scholarship may be awarded per camper per calendar year.
