The Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection opened in 1951 and Forest Lawn Museum opened the following year. Held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the two institutions, “75 Years: Art Finds a Home at Forest Lawn" features never-before-exhibited photographs from the museum’s archive, newly discovered and remastered audio of the original Hall of the Crucifixion program, and beloved artworks, some of which have not been displayed for nearly a decade. The exhibition explores the evolution of Forest Lawn Museum, including the birth of the sculpture collection in the 1920s, art galleries in the Great Mausoleum from the 1940s, and the museum’s humble beginning as a memento shop. The exhibition also highlights the lesser-known figures who helped establish and develop the museum into what it is today. “75 Years: Art Finds a Home at Forest Lawn" is on view September 19, 2026–July 18, 2027. Forest Lawn Museum proudly presents “California Visionaries: The Lives and Legacies of Walt Disney and Hubert Eaton.” The exhibition explores the personal and creative relationship between Walt Disney and Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks founder Hubert Eaton, highlighting the philosophical and artistic parallels that shaped their respective legacies and the iconic parks they created. Visitors of all ages will enjoy icons from beloved Disneyland attractions, original sheet music from the Walt Disney Music Legacy Library, newly-discovered photos from the Forest Lawn Museum archive, concept art, and more! More than mere businessmen, Disney and Eaton traveled similar paths from Missouri to California, opening organizations that are deeply woven into the fabric of American culture. They met in the 1930s, forming a lasting relationship and inspiring one another throughout their careers. In 1966, Disney was an honorary pallbearer at Eaton’s funeral. Disney passed away a few months later and is interred, like Eaton, at Forest Lawn-Glendale. “California Visionaries” celebrates their achievements on the 60th anniversary of their passing. “California Visionaries: The Lives and Legacies of Walt Disney and Hubert Eaton” is on view from September 19, 2026-February 7, 2027.

Join SUD Voices for Change, California’s first non-profit focused exclusively on Californians with lived experience in substance use. Help Shape the Future of Substance Use Care in California Across California, people navigating substance use and recovery continue to face stigma, fragmented systems, housing instability, and barriers to treatment — often without representation in the decisions that affect their lives. SUD Voices for Change is building a Consumer Advisory Group of people with real, lived experience in substance use. We’re looking for Californians impacted by substance use, whether they are currently using, in recovery, a loved one who is caring for someone using substances, or a provider working within the system. The Consumer Advisory Group will advise on SUD Voices for Change programs, policies, and advocacy priorities to help ensure our work reflects what communities actually need. Members will share their lived experiences and perspectives to help reduce stigma, strengthen California’s systems of substance use care, and inform meaningful policy and advocacy efforts. Members will participate in monthly virtual meetings and quarterly in-person gatherings. No board or advocacy experience is required. Individuals currently in substance use recovery, family members or loved ones impacted by substance use, support workers, and harm reduction advocates are welcome to apply. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90059. The special evening celebration will honor pioneering African American impresario Leon Hefflin Sr. and revisit the historic 1946 Cavalcade of Jazz, an extraordinary Los Angeles musical event that brought together some of the most exciting performers of the era. The original program included Lionel Hampton, Louis Armstrong, T-Bone Walker, Jack McVea, Slim Gaillard, the Honey Drippers, Wynonie Brown, and other celebrated performers, presenting audiences with an ambitious evening of jazz, rhythm and blues, and entertainment at Los Angeles’ Wrigley Field. The 1946 event was the second in the groundbreaking Cavalcade of Jazz series created and produced by Leon Hefflin Sr. from 1945 through 1958. The series brought major entertainers before thousands of music lovers in Los Angeles and established an annual jazz festival tradition years before many of the festivals that would later become internationally known. AN EVENING OF JAZZ, HISTORY AND LEGACY Eighty years later, the Hefflin Legacy Foundation will bring this remarkable history to life through live musical performances, historical photographs, storytelling and conversation. A special visual presentation by Deborah Swan, Founder and Executive Director of the Hefflin Legacy Foundation, will explore the 1946 Cavalcade of Jazz, its extraordinary roster of performers and the vision of Leon Hefflin Sr. The presentation will lead into a book conversation moderated by playwright Karani Johnson, centered on Swan’s The Impresario: Leon Hefflin and the World’s First Annual Jazz Festival and the journey to uncover, document and preserve Hefflin’s largely overlooked contribution to American music history. Live musical performances will connect the sounds and spirit of the original Cavalcade of Jazz with today’s audiences, creating a celebration of the history while carrying its legacy forward to a new generation. PRESERVING AN UNTOLD CHAPTER OF AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY At the heart of the Foundation’s preservation work is The Impresario: Leon Hefflin and the World’s First Annual Jazz Festival, a first-of-its-kind 555-page collector’s edition documenting Leon Hefflin Sr.’s story and the history of the Cavalcade of Jazz. Saint Megan is inspired by the story of Megan Phelps-Roper, granddaughter of the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, a hyper-Calvinist sect notorious for its outrageous picketing of military funerals. Megan defends her faith online, her curious mind and honest conversations threaten her ties to her family and the only community she has ever known. Part family drama, part spiritual reckoning, part Twitter conversation—with music video parodies and Shaker dances—Saint Megan explores the long history of American Christian zealotry, our longing for salvation, and the moral courage it takes to face uncertainty. What begins as a strange but tender connection with her quickly fractures as hallucinations, mercury-induced madness, and the weight of his father’s gruesome legacy consume him. This new and exciting site-specific production promises to truly be a one-of-a-kind experience as it takes place in an actual house where every room is a curated masterpiece, blending Baroque opulence, Rococo artistry, and Old Hollywood sophistication. European House LA is a private sanctuary, an exquisitely decorated hidden gem tucked away in Studio City, where audience members can feel the thrill of actually being transported INTO the world of the play. The Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection opened in 1951 and Forest Lawn Museum opened the following year. Held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the two institutions, “75 Years: Art Finds a Home at Forest Lawn" features never-before-exhibited photographs from the museum’s archive, newly discovered and remastered audio of the original Hall of the Crucifixion program, and beloved artworks, some of which have not been displayed for nearly a decade. The exhibition explores the evolution of Forest Lawn Museum, including the birth of the sculpture collection in the 1920s, art galleries in the Great Mausoleum from the 1940s, and the museum’s humble beginning as a memento shop. The exhibition also highlights the lesser-known figures who helped establish and develop the museum into what it is today. “75 Years: Art Finds a Home at Forest Lawn" is on view September 19, 2026–July 18, 2027. Forest Lawn Museum proudly presents “California Visionaries: The Lives and Legacies of Walt Disney and Hubert Eaton.” The exhibition explores the personal and creative relationship between Walt Disney and Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks founder Hubert Eaton, highlighting the philosophical and artistic parallels that shaped their respective legacies and the iconic parks they created. Visitors of all ages will enjoy icons from beloved Disneyland attractions, original sheet music from the Walt Disney Music Legacy Library, newly-discovered photos from the Forest Lawn Museum archive, concept art, and more! More than mere businessmen, Disney and Eaton traveled similar paths from Missouri to California, opening organizations that are deeply woven into the fabric of American culture. They met in the 1930s, forming a lasting relationship and inspiring one another throughout their careers. In 1966, Disney was an honorary pallbearer at Eaton’s funeral. Disney passed away a few months later and is interred, like Eaton, at Forest Lawn-Glendale. “California Visionaries” celebrates their achievements on the 60th anniversary of their passing. “California Visionaries: The Lives and Legacies of Walt Disney and Hubert Eaton” is on view from September 19, 2026-February 7, 2027.

FALL INTO OZ “You don’t just watch The Wizard of Oz—you step inside it.” This fall, Woodland Hills is getting an unusual new theatrical experience where the audience doesn’t just watch the story—they become part of it (Sept. 26, 2026) Fall Into Oz, a world-premiere production from Heart to Art Productions, takes families down a real yellow brick road and into an outdoor Oz adventure. When a tornado sweeps Dorothy and her guests into Oz, participants must help solve interactive challenges involving brains, heart and courage as they make their way toward the Emerald City. The 75-minute experience includes live characters, interactive quests, merchants and plenty of opportunities for colorful television visuals. It’s designed for children and adults alike and offers a fresh way to introduce younger audiences to live theater and a classic American story. Fall Into Oz opens September 26 and runs weekends through October 25 at A Secret Rose Garden in Woodland Hills. Winner of a 2026 Los Angeles New Play Project award, Joy Gregory’s provocative new work, Saint Megan, explores belonging and the price of challenging the world we live in. Joy participated in Rogue Machine’s second annual Playwright's Roundtable where the script emerged, and became an Ojai Playwrights Conference finalist this year. It marks the first Playwright's Roundtable script to be given a full production. Saint Megan is inspired by the story of Megan Phelps-Roper, granddaughter of the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, a hyper-Calvinist sect notorious for its outrageous picketing of military funerals. Megan defends her faith online, her curious mind and honest conversations threaten her ties to her family and the only community she has ever known. Part family drama, part spiritual reckoning, part Twitter conversation—with music video parodies and Shaker dances—Saint Megan explores the long history of American Christian zealotry, our longing for salvation, and the moral courage it takes to face uncertainty. This play is a fictionalized dramatization inspired by real events and public figures. Certain scenes, timelines, and dialogue have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes.
