September 10 - Multidisciplinary Artist Tangying Shen Opens Solo Show “Shen’s Wondering” In the San Francisco Bay Area Bay Area Artist Explores Identity, Resilience, and Female Experience at Art X Gallery FREMONT, CA — Artstars Agency is proud to announce the upcoming solo exhibition by acclaimed multidisciplinary visual artist, animator, and educator Tangying (Jane) Shen. Titled Shen’s Wondering, the exhibition opens on September 10, 2026, at Art X Gallery in Fremont, California, within the San Francisco Bay Area. Running through the fall, the exhibition brings together new, never-before-seen pieces that trace the journey of self-discovery and female resilience. Shen’s Wondering centers on a core existential question: How does a woman become herself? The exhibition's title incorporates a subtle visual play: the letter “N” separates to allow a dual reading as “She’s Wondering.” Through painting, ceramics, and interdisciplinary media, Shen explores how women are initially shaped by family, culture, and societal expectations before moving through uncertainty, conflict, and growth toward authentic selfhood. Featured works include Deviation, a poignant exploration of parental protection within a traditional Chinese family, and The Bloom Beyond, an exploration of personal freedom, resilience, and growth after constraint. "Having this exhibition in the San Francisco Bay Area is deeply meaningful because this is where I have developed much of my artistic practice and identity," says Shen. "Resilience is not simply about overcoming difficulties; it is about how we change through those experiences and continue to grow afterward. That ongoing process of questioning and becoming is at the heart of Shen’s Wondering." The public opening reception will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. PT at Art X Gallery, featuring live musical performances from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to complement the visual experience. For international and remote audiences, an interactive online exhibition will launch following the opening event. Shen’s showcase at Art X Gallery coincides with her inclusion in the prestigious international group exhibition Anti-WAR 2026, presented online by Exhibizone and Biafarin through September 11, 2026. Originally rooted in themes of personal freedom and resilience, her participating work, The Bloom Beyond, takes on a broader meaning within the context of Anti-WAR 2026, where its imagery of breaking, survival, and regrowth reflects the human capacity to endure disruption and continue forward. Shen holds an MFA in Storyboarding from the Academy of Art University. Her professional background spans storyboarding, visual art, and arts education, including work as a storyboard artist on the feature film The Other Side of Infinity and several years of experience as an art educator in California. Her work has been exhibited in major institutions nationwide—including the New Museum Los Gatos, Las Laguna Art Gallery, Cape Fear Studios, and Works/San José—and highlighted in global art publications such as The Art Insider, Studio Visit Book, and ATH Magazine. On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all. The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60. Hike # 1 – Historic Trails September 5, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A great way to warm up. This hike explores the historic sites and trails of the park. Navigate both sides of the park to discover Jack London’s Beauty Ranch, London Lake, and the Wolf House ruins. Easy – moderate hike (approximately 4.5 miles roundtrip) Hike # 2 – Ancient Redwood September 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meander through the redwoods and sunny oak woodlands of the park’s three Bridge Trails (Upper, Lower, and Fallen). Heron Arts is pleased to announce Trace, a solo exhibition by David Choong Lee. The opening reception is September 12th, 2026 from 6-9pm. It is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view until October 29th, by appointment only. Trace highlights the unseen fields of energy, earthly and cosmic momentum, and tension created by chaos and order. Although David has technical roots in classical realism, this collection reveals portals into undiscovered dimensions, influenced by graffiti, graphic design, collaborative projects, underground music, and the overall visual energy of San Francisco. Trace will present about 20 paintings and two large, assemblage-style installations that are physical embodiments of his formal paintings. A principal part of the exhibition is David’s portrait-like works. Although the central shape does not represent a specific person or object, it captures a presence—a form that exists somewhere between the geometric and the organic. David’s exploration of shifts in perception allows an openness for creativity. He finds that when viewing something at different angles and distances, the form can change from rigid to fluid. It is in this moment that David finds the heart of his work: liminal energy. His journey through his expressive brushstrokes, futuristic landscapes, and seemingly psychedelic aesthetic leads him to the point of unearthing forms in their transitional state––when it is not quite one thing or another, but exists somewhere in between.

Project Open Hand invites the community to celebrate the historic milestone of serving 30 million meals at its annual Hand to Hand Gala on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria. In July, the organization officially served its 30 millionth meal. The milestone reflects more than four decades of nourishing Bay Area neighbors living with serious illness, food insecurity, isolation, and the challenges of aging through nutritious, medically tailored meals and compassionate care. The evening will also honor Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who helped deliver Project Open Hand's 30 millionth meal on July 27, 2026, and will receive the Ruth Brinker Visionary Award in recognition of her decades-long commitment to improving the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and her steadfast support of Project Open Hand's mission. The award will be presented by John Goldman of the John & Marcia Goldman Foundation. The 7Pacific SF Bakery Run is an 8 mile journey through the city's holiest pastry grounds. This year's edition: Arsicault, Parachute, and Breadbelly. We'll be starting at Golden Gate Park and ending in the Dogpatch. You run, you collect a pastry at each stop, you question why you signed up around mile 5, and then you eat the pastry anyway because it's one of the best in the city. There will be giveaways and raffles along the way, because nothing says "you earned this croissant" like also winning free stuff for eating it. We are expecting a sold out event. On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all. The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60. Hike # 1 – Historic Trails September 5, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A great way to warm up. This hike explores the historic sites and trails of the park. Navigate both sides of the park to discover Jack London’s Beauty Ranch, London Lake, and the Wolf House ruins. Easy – moderate hike (approximately 4.5 miles roundtrip) Hike # 2 – Ancient Redwood September 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meander through the redwoods and sunny oak woodlands of the park’s three Bridge Trails (Upper, Lower, and Fallen). The journey leads to the majestic ancient redwood, fondly known as the Grandmother Tree. If you've ever finished a hard conversation with a parent, sibling, or spouse and thought, "When did this get so complicated?" — you're not alone. Caregiving reshuffles roles we've held our whole lives. The child becomes the decision-maker. The independent parent becomes the one who needs help. Siblings who rarely coordinated on anything are suddenly making choices together under stress. It's no wonder tension shows up. Conflict in caregiving usually isn't a sign that something is broken — it's a sign that people care, and that expectations haven't yet caught up with a changed reality. The good news: much of that friction eases when expectations are named out loud instead of assumed. Who's doing what? What does "help" actually look like? What can each person realistically give right now? These conversations feel awkward at first, but they're often the bridge from resentment back to partnership. Connection doesn't require everyone to agree. It requires everyone to feel heard. At our upcoming conference, we'll dig deeper into practical tools for these moments — how to have the tough talks, divide responsibilities without keeping score, and turn recurring standoffs into shared understanding. Meet the artists behind Fragmented Horizons at the exhibition’s opening reception on Friday, September 25 from 5–7 PM at Studio Shop Gallery in Burlingame. Strati’s work offers a particularly compelling story, as the series began when his wife accidentally broke a plate from his late mother-in-law. Instead of discarding the broken fragments, Strati kept them, eventually working to carefully match his ink drawings to the original patterns of each plate before extending the imagery onto the paper below. The resulting scenes appear to emerge from the fragments themselves, creating an unexpected dialogue between the original object and the new work. The result is part sculpture, part drawing and part storytelling—and the process is fascinating to see up close. Working from radically different materials and processes, Strati and Hayman arrive at a shared exploration of landscape, memory and perception. Strati begins with tangible fragments that have survived from the past, while Hayman, working primarily in oil on canvas, distills the experience of nature into color, movement, space and gesture. Celebrating Roy Brizio: A History Maker For nearly half a century, the name Roy Brizio has been synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship, innovation and the enduring culture of the American hot rod. Born in San Francisco in 1956, Roy grew up immersed in the world of hot rods and drag racing. His father, the late hot-rod legend Andy Brizio, taught Roy the skills of welding and fabrication and brought him along to his shop and the adjacent Champions Speed Shop. By high school, Roy was taking auto, metal and machining classes—and already owned an extraordinary ’32 Ford Coupe. In 1977, Roy founded Roy Brizio Street Rods, beginning in a corner of Champion Speed Shop. Just two years later, he opened his own shop in South San Francisco. Through exceptional craftsmanship and a growing renaissance in the street-rod industry, Roy’s business became one of the most respected names in the world of custom cars. Roy Brizio Street Rods has built Oakland Roadster Show winners, Hot Rod Magazine’s 50th Anniversary “T” roadster and countless award-winning cars designed to be more than showpieces—they were built to be driven. The shop’s celebrated clientele has included baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, rock guitarist Jeff Beck, Neil Young and Eric Clapton. Today, the Brizio name represents two generations of craftsmanship and a remarkable contribution to automotive culture, both locally and around the world. On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all. The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60. Hike # 1 – Historic Trails September 5, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A great way to warm up. This hike explores the historic sites and trails of the park. Navigate both sides of the park to discover Jack London’s Beauty Ranch, London Lake, and the Wolf House ruins. Easy – moderate hike (approximately 4.5 miles roundtrip) Hike # 2 – Ancient Redwood September 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meander through the redwoods and sunny oak woodlands of the park’s three Bridge Trails (Upper, Lower, and Fallen). The journey leads to the majestic ancient redwood, fondly known as the Grandmother Tree. Moderate hike (approximately 6 miles roundtrip) Hike # 3 – Historic Orchard September 19, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Start Location: Note that this hike does not begin at Jack London State Historic Park Sonoma Developmental Center Arnold Dr, Eldridge, CA 95431 Stroll along the blue shores of Fern Lake before reaching the Historic Orchard. Learn about the history of the land and the fascinating fruit-bearing crops that thrive there. Moderate – Difficult hike (approximately 7 miles roundtrip) Hike # 4 – Ridge September 26, 9 a.m-3:30 p.m. Details: Hikers will gain elevation and an appreciation for the diverse habitats found within the park. They’ll also traverse part of the ever-growing Bay Area Ridge Trail.
