In this talk, Eleanor Nairne, Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Department Head, Modern and Contemporary at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and curator of Lee Krasner: Living Color, will trace Krasner's life and 50-year career. Focusing on the transformative final decades of Krasner's life, during which time Krasner created Untitled (1968-1983) on view in A Nation of Artists, Nairne will demystify the artist's process and tenacity in life and art. About Eleanor Nairne Eleanor Nairne is the Keith L and Katherine Sachs Curator and Head of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Previously, she was the Senior Curator at Barbican Art Gallery, London, where her exhibitions included Basquiat: Boom for Real (2017), Lee Krasner: Living Colour (2019), Jean Dubuffet: Brutal Beauty (2021), Soheila Sokhanvari: Rebel Rebel (2022), Alice Neel: Hot Off The Griddle (2023) and Julianknxx: Chorus in Rememory of Flight (2023). There is a $20.00 fee if you would like to keep what you throw. We will then finish and glaze your piece with a color of your choosing, and your piece will be ready for pick up 4 weeks after your class. We will notify you when your piece is finished, and we will hold your piece for 1 month after its completion before donating it. Please note that you must clean your wheel and area thoroughly at the end of class. The kiln is an unpredictable place, and occasionally pieces may not successfully make it through both firings intact. If this happens, we will work with you to find a fair solution. No refunds for the class will be made for pieces that do not make it through both firings.

TILT Institute for Contemporary Image Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations Mural Arts Philadelphia and TILT present Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations. The exhibition takes as its starting point four murals within the larger neighborhood around TILT that were produced in the early years of Mural Arts Philadelphia. Those murals include: Forest Green (1996) by Ras Malik, Cinema Verde (1998) by Dennis Haugh, Tropical Landscape (1999) by Diane Keller, and Tropical Landscape with Waterfall (2000) by Ana Uribe. As with many murals of that time period, these four engaged in the representation of pastoral and garden scenes, often mixing fantasy with landscapes familiar to both nearby Pennsylvania and the Caribbean, where many neighbors originally migrated from.

This fall, history becomes a scavenger hunt as Historic Germantown debuts its second Stamp Rally of the year. Launching September 12 at noon, the Historic Germantown 250th Stamp Rally invites residents and visitors to uncover the pioneers whose stories are rooted throughout the neighborhood. The free, family-friendly experience takes visitors on a scavenger hunt across Northwest Philadelphia, where they can collect stamps and discover the remarkable individuals who have shaped Historic Germantown’s past and present. Running through November 14, the Stamp Rally builds on Historic Germantown's year-long celebration of America's 250th anniversary by putting the people behind the history at the center of the experience. From artists and abolitionists to educators, activists, and innovators, participants will encounter stories of individuals whose achievements made an impact not only on Germantown but on Philadelphia and the nation.

While you’re waiting for a flight that may never take off, unpack your baggage and rifle through some of ours. You may recognize something as your own, or find something you never knew you were carrying. Made for anyone who has ever lost a bag, gotten stuck, or missed a (metaphoric) flight, this trans(formational) installation asks: how do you know it’s time to move on when you don’t know where you’re going? Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. It will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.
In this workshop, participants will study the fundamentals of narrative screenwriting, focusing on finding story ideas, character development, story structure, what makes strong film-writing, and the basics of script format (and why we use this format). The goal of this workshop is for participants to complete an outline for a short script and to write the first few scenes so that they feel empowered to continue the screenwriting process on their own or in a future workshop.

St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church to Hold 25th Anniversary Service of Remembrance for September 11 CHERRY HILL, N.J. — September 1, 2026 — St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church will hold a Service of Remembrance on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The community is invited to gather for an evening of prayer, remembrance, reflection, and hope as the nation marks a quarter-century since the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and profoundly changed the United States and the world. The service carries particular significance for St. Bartholomew’s because two members of the parish’s clergy have firsthand experience ministering in New York City in the aftermath of September 11. The Rev. Art Knight, Deacon at St. Bartholomew’s, volunteered at Ground Zero as one of the chaplains who provided pastoral care to first responders, recovery workers, and others working amid the devastation. The Rev. Dr. Candine E. Johnson, Priest-in-Charge of St. Bartholomew’s, was beginning her seminary journey at General Theological Seminary in New York City when the September 11 attacks occurred. On the fifth day of seminary, September 12, she walked with the chaplain and seven of her classmates to the Seamen’s Church Institute, where they encountered the immediate needs of those affected by the tragedy and began offering their presence and assistance. In the days and weeks that followed, the Rev. Dr. Johnson continued her volunteer service, eventually serving at St. Paul’s Chapel in Lower Manhattan. Located directly across from the World Trade Center site, St. Paul’s became an extraordinary center of relief and ministry following the attacks. Remarkably, the historic chapel survived the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings without significant damage. In the aftermath, it remained open around the clock, providing food, water, clothing, rest, counseling, prayer, and spiritual support to rescue and recovery workers. Thousands of volunteers participated in this ministry, and St. Paul’s became known as “The Little Chapel That Stood.” The experiences of Deacon Knight and the Rev. Dr. Johnson offer St. Bartholomew’s a deeply personal connection to the events being remembered. The Service of Remembrance will include prayers for those who died, those who responded and served in the aftermath, families and communities who continue to carry the effects of September 11, and all who work for peace and reconciliation. The ever-adventurous PRISM Quartet joins forces with the composer/pianist and MacArthur Fellow Craig Taborn in a program featuring the world premiere of Taborn’s Three Animal Riddles. Taborn writes, “Three Animal Riddles is a work in three movements—Two Fish, Red Sulfur Birds, and Her Basilisk—in which improvisatory piano, in dialogue with a saxophone quartet, encounters metaphors of decomposition, transformation, and synthesis. Alchemical animal riddles, Duke Ellington, and Cecil Taylor inspired this piece, which will take on a new final form with each performance.” The program also includes work from PRISM Quartet’s ongoing Heritage/Evolution project by Greg Osby, Melissa Aldana, John Coltrane, and Chris Potter, adapted for PRISM’s saxes and piano.

This exciting, hands-on workshop invites participants to explore two glassmaking processes over the course of two sessions. This handcrafted marble will become the focal point of their finished kaleidoscope. During the second session, on September 19, participants will construct a complementary kaleidoscope with a mirrored interior designed to showcase their marble. As light passes through the scope, reflections of the marble create mesmerizing geometric patterns, transforming the finished piece into a unique, functional work of art. Tours meet inside the Baltimore Visitor Center at the Inner Harbor. The first stop on this special commemorative tour is Westminster Hall & Burying Ground. World-famous as the final resting place of Edgar Allan Poe, this hallowed ground is also home to over 300 patriots of the American Revolution and War of 1812—including Poe’s own family. This September, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation presents Italia è Moda, an exceptional showcase of Made in Italy. The international touring project makes its sole stop in the United States and aims to promote the excellence of Italian fashion and its creative industries worldwide. Curated by Clara Tosi Pamphili, Italia è Moda unfolds as a theatrical stage where garments, accessories, and iconic objects engage in a dialogue through different moments of everyday life. The exhibition features creations by renowned Italian fashion designers, including haute couture, textiles, leather goods, footwear, eyewear, jewelry, goldsmithing, and cosmetics. Among the highlights are two original costumes from Federico Fellini’s Casanova starring Donald Sutherland, which won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1977. The exhibition is further enhanced by audiovisual content and interactive digital installations illustrating the creative processes and heritage of the participating Italian companies.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Hundreds of Cyclists to Ride in the Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Rides on Sunday, September 13, 2026 Details and online registration: sceniccentury.org Each year, hundreds of cyclists take part in the Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Rides. The event comprises a single day series of recreational bicycle rides (not a race) offering routes from 6 miles roundtrip to 100 miles roundtrip through Montgomery and Chester Counties. The event, organized by the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP), will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The fully supported rides start and finish at AIM Academy (1200 River Road, Conshohocken), located directly on the Schuylkill River Trail across from the Miquon Station on the SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line. Event Highlights Seven routes from which to choose — from relaxed rides on scenic paved trails to challenging road adventures. There are four road routes for serious cyclists, two paved trail routes for more casual riders. Checkin for these recreational rides is at 7am and rolloffs at your own pace before 9am. There is a new, free family friendly 6-mile roundtrip ride with checkin at 9am and rolloff at 10am. Walkup registration is available for all rides. Rest stops for some or all of the rides at AIM Academy, the Phoenixville YMCA, and Ridge Fire Company. Coffee, bagels, and fresh fruit at the start; fresh fruit and homemade baked goods at all rest stops; a celebratory pizza party at the finish. On-course support: SAG drivers patrolling the routes and marshals stationed at key locations. Scenic highlights on some or all of the rides include: Picturesque stretches of the Schuylkill River in Montgomery County Valley Forge National Historical Park Four historic covered bridges Chester County’s scenic horse country with rolling hills Rain or shine.
