This workshop explores the evocative world of nocturne painting through the delicate and expressive medium of watercolor. Focusing on landscape scenes at the edge of day—sunset, twilight, and night—students will learn to capture the silvery light and subtle atmospheric effects that define these transitional hours. Learn how to work with restrained hues and layered washes to create a sense of depth and unity, to suggest rather than describe subject matter. Instruction will emphasize tonalist concerns of working with muted color palettes, gentle value shifts, and harmonious compositions. Through individualized guidance, participants will hone their sensitivity to tonal relationships and the expressive potential of nocturne painting. Weekend Workshop Instructor: James Toogood Date & Time: July 25 & July 26, Saturday & Sunday, 9 AM - 5 PM PAFA members at the Dual Plus or Friend level and above receive 10% off. Focusing on landscape scenes at the edge of day—sunset, twilight, and night—students will learn to capture the silvery light and subtle atmospheric effects that define these transitional hours. Community, as defined in the Oxford Dictionary, is “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes and interests”. A sense of community can lead to empowerment and foster change in one’s life. My intention with this installation is to suggest and comment on the urgency in our world these days of people coming together regardless of their physicality or ethnicity. I hope to inspire introspection and unity as we move forward during this challenging global time. These storefront exhibitions are viewable 24/7 from the outside.
